Designer and Educator Beliefs
I feel Design is the combination of art with communication. Design transcends text or images, carrying capacity to persuade, connect and stimulate.
As a working designer, I am the link to influence, link and challenge honest design for my clients, their audience and most important my students. Design starts with curiosity—What is the content—the purpose of the client’s message? For undergraduates it begins with frameworks of discovery, generating investigation and grasp an attitude towards design that is more about the concern a student develops in his/her entire life, rather than just what can be churned out in a semester.
As an art and design instructor, I’ll provide a learning environment in and out of class that will: cultivate critical inquiry, analysis and reflection. I’ll embrace the liberal arts education. Foster self-motivation. Encourage individual vision and potential. Promote precise oral and written communication skills. Expand a working understanding of competency with materials and techniques. Share experiences from all spheres of graphic design. Implement model initiatives and opportunities for professional practices. Present an imaginative environment for students to engage in creative dialogue.
